A Scout is…..

“On my honor I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law; to help other people at all times; to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight”

“A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent”

Building Leaders

Scouting America, formerly the Boy Scouts, is all about shaping young leaders. It’s been around for over a century, using outdoor adventures, community service, and character building to help kids learn to make good choices, be confident, and give back. Everyone’s welcome, and it’s a chance to camp, learn new things, and figure out who you are. If you want adventure, personal growth, or to make a difference, Scouting’s the place to be.

Troop 63

Scouting America Troop 63, chartered under the Blue Grass Council, is a local unit of young people, typically between the ages of 11 and 17, based in Paris, KY, who come together to experience adventure, learn new skills, and develop into responsible and capable leaders. Guided by dedicated adult volunteers, our Scouts participate in a wide range of activities, including camping, hiking, community service, and leadership development.

What Does Troop 63 Do?

  • Outdoor Adventures: Camping, backpacking, hiking, canoeing, and other outdoor activities are central to the Troop 63 experience. These adventures provide opportunities for Scouts to challenge themselves, appreciate nature, and build teamwork.
  • Skill Development: Scouts earn merit badges by mastering a variety of skills, such as first aid, cooking, citizenship, and personal fitness. These skills help them become self-reliant and prepared for life’s challenges.
  • Community Service: Serving others is a core value of Scouting. Troop 63 regularly engages in community service projects, such as cleaning up parks, assisting the elderly, and participating in food drives.
  • Leadership Development: Scouts learn leadership skills through hands-on experiences, such as planning and leading troop activities, serving in leadership positions within the troop, and participating in high-adventure programs.
  • Character Development: Scouting emphasizes the development of strong character traits, such as honesty, trustworthiness, respect, and responsibility. Scouts learn to make ethical choices and to live by the Scout Oath and Law.

How Does Troop 63 Work?

  • Meetings: Troop 63 typically meets Tuesday at 6:30pm at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church to plan activities, work on advancements, and participate in fun and engaging programs.
  • Leadership: The troop is led by a Scoutmaster, who is supported by a team of adult volunteers serving as assistant Scoutmasters and committee members.
  • Youth Leadership: Scouts take an active role in leading the troop through a system of youth leadership positions, such as Senior Patrol Leader, Patrol Leaders, and other troop officers.
  • Advancement: Scouts progress through the ranks of Scouting by earning merit badges, demonstrating leadership skills, and completing other requirements.
  • Outdoor Programs: Troop 63 participates in a variety of outdoor programs, including weekend campouts, summer camp, and high-adventure expeditions, often in conjunction with other troops within the Blue Grass Council.
